Hi guys and gals, this 9HP B&S-powered Craftsman shredder was bequeathed to me and I got it going this weekend. I had the carb rebuilt and I sharpened the blades and it works great!

But it’s L O U D.

Do you think there’s a quieter muffler I could buy for this engine?

Looks like a 1" exhaust. I wonder if one from a B&S generator will fit?

That thing that’s on there really isn’t a muffler at all.

It’s usually like that with old engines. My 98 tiller has a “muffler” the size of my fist and sounds like a Harley with no exhaust. Has a sweet backfire when moving the throttle back too fast :D

I have one almost the same, it’s loud. Always wear ear protection. And eye protection. Mine does look like the muffler got changed out before I got it, doesn't help.

I trimmed 3 pin oaks over Labor Day weekend and it chopped all that up and kept going.

Key is to keep the branches long enough that you can feed them in, don't cut everything into handfuls as it'll clog up.
